On 6 May 2010, MOMENTUM (a Support Action to the eParticipation Project co-funded by the European Commission) organised a workshop ‘EU eParticipation Prepatory Action: Results & Future Directions’ during eDEM10 (4th International Conference on eDemocracy) in Krems, Austria. As the MOMENTUM Project’s financing from the European Commission is going to end at the end of June 2010, it was important to highlight the main findings and results of the support action. MOMENTUM’s results provide the eParticipation domain with a unique and universal methodology to monitor and evaluate eParticipation projects and relevant findings on their implementation such as that Web 2.0 portals remain the most widely used to inform and consult citizens, while Office Automation Tools and Mobile Devices remain unexplored. The 1st MOMENTUM expert evaluation workshop was held in conjunction with the European E-participation Day in Brussels, Belgium organized by the European Commission (EC) on 4th March 2009. Besides the plenary presentations and panel discussions, the eParticipation projects co-funded in the frame of the Preparatory Action, and other eParticipation projects, exhibited their results at booths.
The exhibition at the European eParticipation day provided the best possible environment for the 1st MOMENTUM expert evaluation workshop to take place. Once again Irina Zalisova and her team and European Projects and Management (EPMA) in Prague have run what has to be one of the absolute highlights of the eGovernment Conference circuit. The 2nd MOMENTUM Concertation Meeting took place on 5th March 2009 in Brussels, Belgium. More than thirty participants of projects funded under the eParticipation preparatory actions 2007 and 2008 reflected about the European eParticipation Day and discussed about joint issues to progress eParticipation through the individual activities of the projects, and where to join forces to streamline activities and exploit synergies.
